Overview

The Women’s and Gender Studies Undergraduate Certificate provides an opportunity for students to integrate scholarship about women and gender differences from a variety of disciplines into a coherent program of study. This certificate program is open to degree-seeking students only. The Certificate Program includes a core of required courses central to an understanding of gender issues in a social and historical context.

Why Apply?

The courses provide a basic grounding in Women’s and Gender Studies that should be useful in many majors and in preparation for graduate study and professional training. The core courses are supplemented by a variety of electives to be chosen according to the student’s specific interests. Students may enroll in the Certificate Program or take courses as electives.

Requirements

Students who wish to concentrate, but not major, in Women's and Gender Studies may obtain an academic certificate.

Eligibility:
All undergraduate students (from any College or School) are eligible to earn the Women's and Gender Studies Certificate.

How to Apply (FIU Students):
Download a Certificate Application Form from the FIU Registrar's Office. Please bring completed forms to a Women's and Gender Studies graduate advisor in DM 212 or fax to us at (305) 348-3143.

How to Apply to FIU for a Post-baccalaureate Undergraduate Certificate:
Students who are new to FIU and who wish to earn a post-baccalaureate undergraduate certificate should:

  1. Apply to FIU as a non-degree seeking student (click for FIU Registrar's Forms page for appropriate form).
  2. Once admitted, fill out the Certificate Application Form and return to Women's and Gender Studies Center in DM 212 or fax to us at (305) 348-3143.

Post-baccalaureate certificate earners may apply a maximum of three Women's and Gender Studies courses (9 credits) earned at other universities or colleges to the undergraduate certificat

Tuition Information

Students enrolled in a fully online bachelor’s degree program at FIU will not be charged many of the fees applicable to on-campus students, saving fully online student hundreds of dollars per semester. Please note fully online students do not have free access to FIU’s on-campus resources such as: computer labs, sporting events, recreational facilities, parking, etc.
